About
Scripps is a not-for-profit, community-based health care delivery network in San Diego, California, that includes five acute-care hospitals, more than 2,600 affiliated physicians, an extensive ambulatory care network, home health care and associated support services. As a result of the July 2000 reaffiliation with Scripps Clinic, Scripps now has approximately 10,000 employees and also cares for patients at 12 Scripps Clinic locations throughout San Diego County.
Scripps has a long history in San Diego, dating back to 1924 when Ellen Browning Scripps founded Scripps Memorial Hospital and Scripps Metabolic Clinic in La Jolla. Scripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego's oldest hospital, was founded in 1890 and joined the Scripps system in 1995.
Challenge
Prior to implementing RedDot’s Content Management Server, maintaining a consistent look and function across the Web site was a challenge for the organisation. “We went from a frames based site to an ASP/cold fusion site with very sophisticated navigational architecture,” said Nathan Bartolome, Webmaster at Scripps Health. “RedDot allows the Web development team to work from predefined templates, therefore standardising the way the site functions.” The organisation updated the Web site daily and more than a hundred people from across the enterprise were developing content.

The SmartEdit™ interface enables content owners to easily add, change, or delete content. Red dots that appear indicate the areas where changes can be made. The simple and intuitive nature of the system allowed additional staff at Scripps to quickly and easily adopt the system, thus creating efficient daily maintenance of their site.

Results
Since Scripps Health implemented the RedDot Content Management Server, site visits have steadily increased and RedDot has become the tool of choice for several Intranet projects as well. Upon implementation, the Marketing and Communications departments were able to own their respective sections/content on the Web site. Web developers and project managers were liberated concentrate on other core business initiatives.
